$20. Pre-Registration required; for all age groups (children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult)

Join us on Saturday, August 22, from 12:30-5PM, for our last Wild Food Foraging workshop of the year, presented by Marguerite Uhlmann-Bower, R.N., Herbalist, Wild Foods Forager.
This event is sponsored by Bassett Heathcare and is open to all age groups (children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult).
Registration is $20.00 per person; pre-registration is encouraged, so that class materials can be distributed electronically in advance.

The group will gather at the West Kortright Centre and take a guided foraging walk in the woods and fields nearby, where they will learn to locate & identify edible wild foods available in the late summer. Students will learn about plant nutrition, ecological conservation, and healing properties. The walk will be followed by a wild food tasting.

Note from the instructor:

Those weeds you thought useless will prove quite the opposite! Discover how many common wild plants can feed your belly and nourish the soul.
It’s an experiential, hands-on, mind altering nature tour that will traverse woods and streams near The WKC. The program will focus on edible wild foods (many of them invasive species) for their nutrition, their ecological conservation, and healing abilities. Group discussions will include supporting and nourishing the land that feeds us and healthy eating strategies for all ages.
This season we meet in is Late Summer, when one can feel the gentleness of  summer winding down. The sun is lower in the sky. The moments are more still as the sounds of Nature are less busy. All this affords us to be able to hear the plants speak their intelligence. Our walk into the woods, as we did in April 2015, will bring seasonal flora and fungi. Surely, we’ll access the virtues of weed flowers in what I call New Earth Living Skills. If you were on the wall about attending this class, do consider as I believe you’ll not want to miss. After the walk all will prepare a take-home Flower Essence (or any essence for that matter) to bring home to begin using for wellness giving strategies. Then of course we’ll sit down to fill our bellies and quench our thirst with a few wild foods made and prepared by Marguerite.

As an herbalist, NYS licensed R.N., and wellness-educator, Marguerite Uhlmann-Bower offers “Weeds, Leaves, Seeds & Shoots” outdoor programs for all age groups. Her focus is on sustainable wellness, heart-centered earth stewardship, environmental respect and accountability, and reciprocal human-plant relationships.
