Joy on Stage with Sloan Wainwright

Learn to claim space on stage and be in the beautiful and exciting moment of performing!

**This workshop has been cancelled—Sloan would like to reschedule for a date in 2020. Please email info@westkc.org for updates and more information*

How to find your calm and peaceful center in the eye of the storm...Sloan will provide a safe and supportive atmosphere in which to address all things performance—song selection, intros, elements of taking care of yourself on and off stage, tools for preparing, practicing, and facing & engaging happily with an audience. Explore the world of "owning it”! Experience being your authentic self and in the flow with an audience. Release your inner strengths to savor the moment so you can perhaps remember your performance; the memory won't be erased by nervousness.

We’ll address song or “piece” selection, intros, elements of taking care of yourself on- and offstage, tools for preparing and practicing, then facing and engaging happily with an audience. We'll talk a little and check in with what you need. We’ll have fun and put on our very own show.

For musicians, actors, poets, and anyone else interested in performing.

Light lunch included. All levels, ages 18 and up. Pre-registration required.

$90/$80 WKC member

Defying standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American musical styles — pop, folk, jazz and blues — held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto, with the end result being a unique and soulful hybrid.

Her family tree (brother and folk-music luminary Loudon Wainwright, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a Who’s Who of contemporary folk music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique songwriting ability but also her dramatically voiced rendition of original songs.

With a solid and impressive discography of 10 original CD releases to her credit, Sloan continues to write, sing, and perform live and has won two songwriting awards at the annual EmPower Posi Music Awards. In addition, Sloan has written numerous musical compositions for theater and dance and teaches at many of the best-known master songwriter series and workshops.
