The Harmonic Series: Musical Theory Part 1: Taylor Swift (ages 12-15)

Part I: Starting with Taylor Swift Saturday, September 26 10am-12pm $10 suggested donation This class is for students ages 12-15 interested in learning a bit more about how music works by diving into songs they enjoy. Using songs by Taylor Swift, we will learn how to approach notated music, and practice reading along with a song. In this first class, we will be listening and discussing, with a focus on chords: what they are, what they do, and how really good musicians (aka Taylor) can use them to great effect. Stephen Bennett has been writing music for theater for ten years, beginning while he was still training and working as an actor. In 2013, he produced a musical take on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, called What You Will. He has written music for works including Highly Impractical Theatre’s Three Sisters, Linked Dance Theatre’s Freaks Don’t Cry, several productions with This is Not a Theatre Company, as well as Dominic Finocchiaro’s brut. He has composed and music directed for the West Kortright Centre’s Young People's Theater Workshops: Shakespeare in the Valley program since 2017.
