Carving is practical, useful, creative, fun, meditative, and artistic! Learn to carve a simple spoon that you can use, admire and proudly display. For beginners! If you have never carved a spoon before, you will learn how to create the basic rough shape with a hatchet, then refine and finish with a knife. We will split wood, make a billet, draw a pattern on the billet, use delicate hatchet strokes and carefully and safely use knives to create your first fabulous spoon! Tree to table!

We’ll examine different spoons and their aspects and characteristics. We’ll talk about what makes a good spoon. We’ll look at other carved folk art objects for inspiration and whittle away the summer day.

Scott Hill is an artist/designer who has been in the area for 25 years. He has been active in the Delaware County community in many ways, most notably through his retail shops, “Delaware Trading Post”, “Old Village Hall”, “Midnight Cabin” and most recently the miniature golf project, “Putt Putt Van Winkle”.
