This popular longstanding workshop is returning this year though just with one series (rather than two).
Bring a piece to read that you are working on, up to 6 or 8 pages. We’ll listen as a group and respond with honesty, engagement, and respect. We’ll discuss elements of fiction— voice, character, point of view, plot, imagery— as well as different processes that help bring a story forth. The singularity of each voice will be encouraged. Our approach will be humble but our purpose will be grand: to give voice to the clarity and energy of the imagination.
Mermer Blakeslee has published three novels. In Dark Water (Ballantine) was selected by Barnes and Noble for its Discover Great New Writers series. An excerpt from her latest novel, When You Live by a River, won the Narrative Prize. Blakeslee received three fiction fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts. Drawing on her work with fearful ski students, she wrote the non-fiction A Conversation with Fear. Her roots are in poetry and her current project circles back to a hybrid of that form. She was born, raised, and still lives in New York’s Catskill Mountains. For more info, go to www.mermerblakeslee.com

Cancellation Policy:
Please consider carefully before signing up for one of our classes or purchasing for another person. Due to the small class size for in-person workshops, each participant makes an important contribution to the group dynamic and canceling within short notice can make it difficult to fill your spot. If you do need to cancel, please be aware of our policies:
Cancellations must be made at least 30 days prior to the start date of a workshop in order to receive a refund.
Registration and material costs (if applicable) will be refunded, minus a non-refundable $25.00 registration fee. Although extremely rare, we reserve the right to cancel any class up to 48 hours beforehand for a full refund.
